If the net force on an object is zero, the object could:

  • Have zero acceleration.
  • Be at rest.
  • Be in motion at a constant velocity.
  • All of the preceding

Since F = ma, we know the first option is correct. The object could definitely be at rest if the acceleration is zero, so option 2 is also correct. The object could also be in motion (at a constant velocity there is zero acceleration), so option 3 is also correct. Therefore:
