Question 14.4

Part A = all of the preceding.

Solutions Below:

Part A

The speed of sound in air

A. is about 1/3 km/s.
B. is about 1/5 mi/s.
C. depends on temperature.
D. all of the preceding.

The answer is D. all of the preceding. At STP, the speed of sound is equal to about 1/3km/s or about 1/5mi/s. But the actual speed does depend on the temperature (and the composition of the air, so at higher altitudes where the air is less dense, the speed of sound is different).

D. all of the preceding.
